The students in the Yellows and Greens started the year doing a lot of observational drawings of animals. They drew Foxtail (Nan’s chicken), Peda (a box turtle), a taxidermed fisher (both borrowed from Arcadia) and Dan Klatz’s stuffed ornamental rooster.
Placing drawing on top of foam board and then tracing over the lines with pens, students transferred those drawings. The pressure of the pen incised the underlying foam, creating a “printing plate”. Rolling out ink onto the plates using a tool called a brayer and then pressing and rubbing their plates onto paper, the Yellows and Greens made these prints.
